What is dad stitch?

"Dad stitch" refers to a controversial practice in which a doctor may add an extra stitch to the episiotomy (an incision made in the perineum during childbirth to widen the birth canal) of a woman who has just given birth without her consent. The purpose of the stitch is said to be to tighten the vagina for the pleasure of the male partner during intercourse. The term "dad stitch" is sometimes used colloquially, but it is not an official medical term, and the practice is widely considered unethical and has been condemned by many medical professionals. Additionally, the idea that a woman's body should be altered for the sexual preference of her partner perpetuates harmful societal attitudes towards women's bodies and sexuality.
